"Never Gonna Fall in Love Again" is a song co-written and recorded by American pop rock artist Eric Carmen. It was released as the second single from Carmen's self-titled debut solo album, the song peaked at number 11 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in June 1976, remaining in the Elevation 40 for 10 weeks.[1] The song reached number 1 on the Billboard Easy Listening nautical chart. In Canada, information technology was a number-one hitting on both charts.[two] [3]

The melody of "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again" is based on the 3rd motility (Adagio) from Symphony No. two by Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff.

On his second solo LP, Boats Confronting the Electric current, Carmen had a subsequent Top 40 hitting entitled "She Did It", a happy respond to the loneliness and lovelessness described in this song and its equally melancholy predecessor, "All Past Myself".

Television performance [edit]

Carmen performed "Never Gonna Fall in Dearest Over again" and his prior hit, "All By Myself" on The Midnight Special television program on July 23, 1976 (flavor iv, episode 37). The evidence was hosted past The Spinners.[4]

Australian singer songwriter Mark Holden recorded and released a version April 1976 equally his debut single. The vocal was a commercial success, peaking at number 13 on the Kent Music Report.[12] [xiii]

Background and release [edit]

Marker Holden released his debut studio anthology Dawn in Darkness in 1975. Consisting entirely of original songs, the anthology was a commercial failure, selling approximately 2,000 copies[xiv] In April 1976 Holden received a call from Colin Petersen, EMI Music Commonwealth of australia's A&R, who suggested he cover "Never Gonna Autumn in Dear Again". In his 2017 autobiography, Holden said recording it "was a chance for me to have a hit". Holden promoted the song by performing the track on Countdown, where he performed the runway while handing out ruby carnations to the audience. It became an infamous functioning which led to Holden's nickname of "The Carnation Kid"[xv]

Dissimilar "All by Myself," Carmen'southward version of "Never Gonna Autumn in Love Over again" was non released in Commonwealth of australia and therefore did non chart. Still, Dana reached #31 in the United kingdom in 1976 with the song.[16] Her British release charted meantime with Carmen'southward and Holden's versions.

Other versions [edit]

  • Frank Sinatra performed the vocal many times in concert in the late 1970s, most notably during the 1976 MDA Telethon. Addicted of Eric Carmen's songs, he had arrangements made of both this song and "All By Myself." He never recorded either song.
  • Tony Burrows covered the song in 1976 with the studio grouping Magic.
  • Spanish vocalizer Miguel Bosé also covered it (in English) in his debut LP Linda in 1977.
  • John Travolta covered the song in 1978.
  • Tommy Page covered the song on his 1991 anthology From the Eye.
